mechcommander

mechcommander was originally released on the 24th of june, 1998. the player is the commander of a company of the first davion guards, tasked with taking back the planet port arthur from clan smoke jaguar. there are 30 missions split into 5 operations. an expansion was released in 1999 called mechcommander: desperate measures, and is set immediately after the original game, with the player still the commander of the same company, now tasked with taking back the planet cermak from a rogue smoke jaguar officer. the original game and the expansion were compiled into a version known as mechcommander gold.

mechs

you start the game with two commandos and a firestarter, and other inner sphere mechs are available to purchase and salvage throughout the game. however, the clan mechs can only be salvaged. there are 18 mechs in the original game, with 6 added in for desperate measures (3 inner sphere and 3 clan mechs).

there are 3 variations of each mech in mechcommander: W (weapons variant, with more room for more/bigger weapons), A (armour, more heavily armoured), and J (has jump jets).
